About GB

Gay Burners? Is this excluding Burners who are not gay? That’s against the doctrines of Burning Man, man! Dude, that is so uncool, man.” – based on content from ePlaya

Anyone can join Gay Burners. We are gays, lesbians, bi-sexuals, pan-sexuals, a-sexuals, trans-sexuals and all the blurry lines that make up the fine quilt of – us. The reason I put this on here – we have our own vibration of the Burning Man experience. It is inclusive, but more special because it ours as a group or as individuals.

Gay Burners versus any other Burners; seems like there is hardly much of a distinction. Which if we were in the mundane world it would be a good thing. Burners have a world of Radical Self-Expression which is something we have been doing (even if for a while it was in the closet) for many decades before THE MAN. In that spirit this site is for the boys and the girls. Though we might not always play together, we do all come together at least once a year for something pretty amazing. Hopefully this site will build bridges and build relationships.

PLEASE READ THE POLICIES THAT COVER CONTENT AND IMAGES. It is important because this site will be treated like a community. Enjoy and please share your thoughts. IMPORTANT NOTE: When creating a user log-in avoid weird characters and spaces. It will give you an error but not always be clear about it. Any problems let me know at general@lvburners.com … thanks!

Being LGBT at Burning Man feels like something special as the majority of the population is heterosexual (did someone take a survey), but the concept of Radical Inclusion and Radical Self-Expression is something not foreign to who we are already.

One of my frustrations in the LGBT world is that the boys and the girls often play in separate yards and rarely play together. There are cities where the boy bars are here and the girl bars are there. Boys going into the girls bar (or visa versa) results in hostility and resentment.

Gender bias spaces have their places, but in a social world we need to be integrated where it is appropriate. We as Burners, We as Queers, We as ‘the blurry lines’ as a culture beyond the LGBT community have a leg up because our association with Burning Man because of our acceptance of the 10 Principles.

As your Administrator for this site, I (Toaster) is responsible for posting a message about Radical Faeries, which is a not-so-distantly related cousin who seem to be fighting a small gender war. My own comments on Tribe.Net have danced the line of gender exclusion, but frankly I have come to really appreciate a lot of new women in my life. I want a fraternal space, when and where it is appropriate.

A group that I think has achieved this in a nice balance is Camp Beaverton Home for Wayward Girls, a prominent camp at Burning Man every year. They are a Women-centric camp, but have a lot of strong male participation, yet reserve space specifically designated for women and female needs.

Meanwhile, I want Gay Burners to be a balance where any gender is taking over and all of us Queers can play nicely together. With the recent adding of new site Admins, the opportunity continues to grow. I have 2 women whom I have known for a long time that will help with the female presence. I have one person who identifies as a 4th gender supporting the T of the LGBT and other Gender Blender people. Myself, a gay man and will be looking for an additional male to help with postings.

Any member can submit an article, blog, or posting. In some cases and admin may have to help. Any questions please contact me directly…

Hey Toaster! I’m new on this site, tho’ I’m followed you guys for a while on FB. I have a question I hope you might be able to answer. I had a real problem trying to afford to go to the Burn each year (I missed last year due to lack o’ funds) and to end that ghastly situation I started to sew up this kind of wearable art from faux furs. As I’ve been a Artist all my life, and used to be a commercial sculptor in the film industry (unfortunately now on disability for life, thus the problem with income). I worked my ass off to create a small line of really unique outfits. Then enlisted the help of friends to set up a site for it, and try to get the word out. That has proved to be really frustrating. So, I wanted to ask if there is any way that I might be able to post notice of my web site with Gay Burners? The site is “PlayaMates.com”, I’m also on FB. Please check it out. Time is burning, and I need to get some much needed funding together for this years Burn, so if there is anyway I might be able to access this community, I would really appreciate a reply, whatever the answer. Thank You, Love, Booka
